Game 7 Monday Night To Finalize The First Round Of The NHL Playoffs: Capitals Vs. Rangers And Bruins Vs. Maple Leafs

Game 7 Monday night for bother series; the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins duke it out in order to advance.

Three of the original six teams of the NHL have to battle it out for one more, just to reach the second round of the NHL playoffs in game 7 Monday night.

The Rangers have to win game seven on the road in a series which the home team has won all six games in the series thus far. Game 7 Monday night will also mark the chance for the Maple Leafs to complete the 3-1 comeback, but they will also have to do it on the road.

"They kept our most dangerous weapon off the ice, our power play," Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner told NHL.com.  "They got the one good bounce to go in, and we didn't have an answer for it. It's very frustrating that you have to go for Game 7 [Monday], but that's the way it is sometimes."

Both the Rangers and Maple Leafs won at home Sunday. New York shutout Washington with a 1-0 victory and Toronto scored two in the third period to finish a 2-1 victory over Boston.

"I think tonight was definitely (bad) puck management," Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters. "We talked about it before the game and we talked about it after the first period. That sometimes means being strong on the puck, making the right plays, shooting versus over-passing. I didn't think it was very good and as I said to our players, we've been a Jekyll-and-Hyde team all year, and that's what you're seeing right now. I think it's important for us to bring the good Bruins team to the table for Game 7."

After game 7 Monday night, the winners will meet in round two, which is the Eastern Conference semi-finals. In the other matchup, the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins will play the seventh-seeded Ottawa Senators.

After Monday night, the "Sprint to the Stanley Cup" dwindles from 16 teams to eight.
