Huntington Beach Teenagers Beat Man With Skateboards; Teens Could Face Murder Charges As Man Remains In Critical Condition

A Huntington Beach man remains in severely critical condition after being beaten with skateboards wielded by four teenagers. The 25-year-old Huntington Beach man was beaten with skateboards after he and his girlfriend tried to break up a fight between two groups of teenagers at a crowded skate park. Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitchell O'Brien said the teenage skaters eventually turned on the couple and chased the man to a coin laundry across the street, where he was eventually beaten.

Four youths, ages 14 to 16, were booked at Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder and three others are currently being sought. The teenagers, who are all currently on probation for previous charges, could face attempted murder charges because the man has sustained life-threatening injuries from the beating. Three other teenagers thought to have been involved in the attack are also being sought for questioning and police are still looking for more information about the attack.

The father of a 15-year-old suspect told Eyewitness News that his son is being accused of a crime he didn't commit. The father says two other boys, who told him they hit the man in the head with their skateboards to protect his son, plan to turn themselves in today.

"My son said that he did not hit the man. He ran from him, threw the skateboard at him because the man was attacking him with a screwdriver," said the father, who did not want to be identified.

Huntington Beach police have not commented on the father's allegations. Police say they will announce new details in the case on Monday. The 25-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical condition, but his mother says he appears to be improving.
