The 21st Asian Television Awards concluded yesterday night with Korea emerging with several top awards. A total of 46 awards were given out across two days - 18 on the trade dinner event held on 1 December and another 28 on the "live" show held on 2 December in front of a filled hall.
Descendants of the Sun clinched the "Best Drama Series" award amidst piercing screams by dedicated fans of the South Korean series. Adding onto South Korea's wins is MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) that managed to clinch the "Best Entertainment (One-Off/Annual)" award.Crime Scene 2 went away with the "Best Game or Quiz Programme" award.
President and CEO of KBS was awarded Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television on 1 December to honour his accomplishments and contributions to the TV industry in Asia Pacific and the world. Ko has more than 30 years of experience in public broadcasting and was appointed Chairman of the Korean Broadcasters Association in August this year.
Alongside the awards presentation, the audiences were also treated to performances by artistes JJ Lin, Charli XCX, Rossa, Ivy Grace Paredes as well as Amber Liu. Amber kicked off her stage energetically with her debut single "Shake That Brass", fans instinctively sang along to the chorus "Hey Ho, Hey Ho!". Following up with her second performance, Amber sang her self-composed song "Borders". A tangent from her usual Korean tracks, "Borders" was sung in English allowing the audience to understand the lyrics behind the song which she shared was very meaningful to her. The audience grooved with Amber all through "Borders" with a sea of light.
