There is a new tvN drama in town! It's none other than the star-studded "Goblin".
"도깨비" or simply "Goblin" is the new talk of town due to its grand premiere episodes last week. Its teasers also made it remarkably anticipated. The ratings of the show also sky rocketed despite it being a cable series. Mm, what could be the reasons why it's a sure hit? Well, let's start with what is this series all about.
The story of this new tvN drama is all about the goblin named Kim Shin (yes, it is being played by the "Train to Busan" lead actor Gong Yoo) who was a warrior back in the ancient days. Because of the number of the deaths that he has caused and witnessed, he was gifted and punished at the same time by a curse of becoming an immortal.
Only his destined bride can lift the curse up. One of the twists of the story is, his bride is also made off a curse that he has employed because of interferring with th matter of life and death.
The plot of "Goblin" is definitely daebak and of course, what do you expect when its writer is just the writer of some of the hit dramas that you felt sleepless watching in one seating. Its writer is none other than the multi-awarded Kim Eun Sook, who's responsible for the jaw-dropping stories and catchphrases in the dramas "Descendants of the Sun", "The Heirs", "Secret Garden", and "Lovers in Paris".
Aside from the amazing storyline that will unfold this December, the cast of "Goblin" is one enough reason to watch it. It's filled with a lot of flower boys. Gong Yoo, Lee Dong Wook, and Yook Sung Jae will definitely be the new reasons of your sleepless nights.
Episode 1 and 2 already showed how these three boys have chemistry as they live under one roof. Yes, the goblin and the grim reaper leaves under the same house and be prepared for a doze of bromance!
The female casts of "Goblin" are also perfectly chosen. The "Cheese on the Trap" star Kim Go Eun shows a more outgoing vibe as she plays the role of Ji Eun Tak, the goblin's wife.
Watch episode 1 and you'll see her say "saranghae" to the goblin which unleashes the hidden aegyo in her. Yoo In Na will play the role of Kim Sun, Eun Tak's boss on her part-time job. She's set to have a love-line with the grim reaper. It's something to look forward to on episode 3!
The shots used in the drama are just picturesque. The CGs are definitely world class and could be mistaken as a movie at first glance. The first episode resembled some scenes from "Jumong" and "Pirates of the Carribean".
Curious? Well, you can watch this trailer and you'll see what I'm talking about. Moreover, the OST of "Goblin" is pretty catchy too.
Definitely, if you are looking for the perfect K-drama to watch over the Christmas break, "Goblin" is the answer. Catch "Goblin" every Friday and Saturday 8 PM KST on tvN. You can also catch it on online viewing sites like Viki and Dramafever.
