Highly acclaimed actor Hwang Jung-Min won the vote for Actor of the Year by winning 21.2 percent. He leads the vote over Song Kang-Ho, Gong Yoo and Ha Jung-Woo who trailed behind him.
The polling was conducted by the Korean office of the renown reseach company Gallup according to Chosun Ilbo. The polling was taken from Nov. 4 to 25 with 17,00 respondents aged 13 or older from nationwide. They were asked to choose the two most outstanding actor of the year based on their preference.
Hwang received the most vote with 21.2 percent, followed by Song who talled 18.4 percent and Gong Yoo in third place with 12.7 percent. Ha Jung-Woo trailed in fourth position with 11.4 percent and Yu Hae-jin in the 5th place with 10.8 percent.
The 46-year old actor is known as an all round actor. He can play any roles which he has shown in his long list of movies. He played a notorious gangster in 2012 movie “New World” with Lee Jung-Jae, and also a police in “Veteran” last year. He also played a bumpy lawyer turned Seoul major in “Dancing Queen” and his stellar performance in “Ode to My Father.”
His latest movie “Asura: The City of Madness” have garnered a praise from Hollywood Reporter as a corrupt major in the fictional city on Annam. Hwang played with Jung Woo-sung and deliver one of the best film about organized political crime syndicate involving a city administrator and his cronies.
“Asura: The City of Madness” was released in September 2016 and its plot of the corrupt government was portrayed as realistic as possible. In the light of the president Park Geun-Hye scandal and impeachment, the movie has become relevant to the issue. This may also give Hwang a favor in the polling which was conducted when the presidential scandar arose.
