'24' To Return To Fox As Limited Edition 12-Part Miniseries With Kiefer Sutherland Next Season [VIDEO]

Jack Bauer will return in May 2014 when Fox will air 12 new episodes of 24 for a limited run!

The new series, called 24: Live Another Day, was announced on Monday, three years after the Fox drama was axed after eight seasons, a total of 192 episodes between 2001 and 2010. Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly said that creating a miniseries is the perfect format for 24

"They always had this idea of maybe someday doing a feature film," he said. "I think they all agreed 24 being compressed into two hours is not 24."

Kiefer Sutherland said he was excited to see his character return to TV.

"The response to '24' is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before," Sutherland said in a statement. "To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like finding a lost friend. The story ideas from [producer] Howard Gordon are exciting and fresh, and will not disappoint. Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off."

Though the original concept of 24 was that it ran in real time across 24 hours, the new 24 will unfold over just 12 hours. Reilly said it will feature only the most eventful hours in a new Jack Bauer adventure.

Fox is jumping on the miniseries bandwagon that started rolling with the History channel's hits "Hatfields & McCoys" and "The Bible."

The network plans to use 24 to help launch another limited-run series, M. Night Shyamalan's "Wayward Pines." "Wayward Pines," from the man who brought us "The Sixth Sense" is based on the best-selling novel "Pines," starring Matt Dillon. Fox calls the new show a "mind-bending thriller" about the search for missing federal agents in an Idaho town. It will air in midseason.

There have been countless other changes to Fox's TV Lineup.

In the upcoming season, Seth MacFarlane, creator of "Family Guy," ''American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show," will be trying his hand at a live-action sitcom. "Dads" stars Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi as best friends whose fathers (Martin Mull and Peter Riegert) become their new roommates.

One new reality show, a cooking competition for youngsters ages 8 to 13 and with the working title, "Junior Masterchef," will debut in the fall with Gordon Ramsey among its coaches.

Reilly also said the network doesn't have "any new judges to talk about" on "X Factor" yet, but will make announcements soon.
