After a flop in the first week, production team of “Hwarang” will launch a video game for mobile app. The drama will also be transformed as musical play which is already in discussion.
“Hwarang” received a cold response from the audience in Korea, averaging only 7.04 percent in the AGB Nielsen Korea and 7.4 percent in TnMS. In order to attract more audience, as reported byJoongdo News, KBS has prepared a video game for mobile phone and tablet.
The video game is a live-action game and will be available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store starting Dec. 26. This strategy is expected to bring more audience to watch the drama.
Other than that, KBS has also engaged in a discussion to make a musical play from the drama. According to Asia One, Asia Bridge Content has confirmed to collaborate with Oh Boy Project to co-produce the musical play of “Hwarang” as a spin-off of the drama.
Surprising result from a low viewership ratings is really unexpected by related parties. It is because cast members of the drama are considered as heavy weight with five handsome actors and idol played together in one drama. That fact alone is supposedly become the recipe for success to attract female audience.
However upon seeing the performance in the ratings, urgent needs for more effort to bring audience to watch the drama. The KBS will not be able to alter the story, because the drama is a pre-produced one, that means the drama has finished filming process before airing. The only viable option is to create a buzz surrounding the drama.
Video game is expected to be the right tool to boost the ratings. Simply because video game is attractive and everyone love video game.
