‘W: Two Worlds’ deserves to win big in the 2016 MBC Drama Awards; Actor criticized for his acceptance speech

The year end is the time for award ceremonies in Korean entertainment including the MBC with their Drama Awards on Dec. 30. Fantasy drama “W:Two Worlds” is he undisputed winner in the annual awards ceremony. However, the Grand Prize winner Lee Jong-Suk was under fire with his acceptance speech.

“W: Two Worlds” won seven awards in the 2016 MBC Drama Awards including the Grand Prize (Daesang) for Lee according to official release from the MBC. However, Lee was heavily under fire due to his speech after receiving the award.

Lee delivered a very short acceptance speech and the host of the show Kim Gook-Jin and Uee asked him to continue speech. However, Lee claimed that he was drowsy after taking a herbal medication, so he could not continue to give more speech.

Korean netizens were furious for his very short comment. They said Lee was rude to deliver a very short speech. They also questioned his winning the Grand Prize, because many people think his acting in the W: Two Worlds” did not have the rights to earn the Daesang.

In his social media account, Lee responded to the criticism as reported by Seoul Daily News. He said that he was nervous upon receiving the Grand Prize, the highest award in every award ceremony in Korea.

“Those were the times I have ever shivered so much in my life,” Lee said.

MBC has been criticized for their method and mechanism for their Grand Pize award. The selection process for the actor to win the Grand Prize is solely by the polling from the audience during the ceremony. Therefore, Daesang award in the MBC is more like to be the popularity award than the highest award.

The drama “W: Two Worlds” has also earned the Female Top Excellence Award for Han Hye-Joo, while Lee also won the Male Top Excellence Award. They both also won the Best Couple Awards, along with Kim Eui-Sung with Golden Awards.
