The biggest movie and drama production house in Korea CJ E&M is initiating a project O’PEN. The project provides opportunity for new scriptwriter for drama and movie to create a pool of talent for the company’s production team.
CJ E&M has allocated a 13 billion won ($10.7 million) budget for the O’PEN project by 2020 to nurture a new generation of scriptwriters according to Seoul Daily News. The project will encourage and challenged the talented scriptwriters to produce a good dramas and movies which will bring the Korean entertainment to the next level.
Chief Executive Officer of CJ E&M Kim Sung-Soo has iterated the company’s full commitment as reported by Jong Ang Daily. In a written statement, he said that the company will create a one stop center for discovering talent, providing financial support, and connecting writers with businesses. This will encourage the scriptwriter to create more creative script for movies and dramas.
“By fostering a healthy creative ecosystem, we would like to cultivate an environment where big and small firms can coexist,” CEO Kim said in a statement. “And a content creator who pursues their dreams in difficult conditions can have the chance to show their work to the public.”
The program will ease the process for writers to make their scripts into movies or dramas. Previously, the company make writers to compete in an open competition to have their scripts to be turned into a project. Now, the company decided to change their approach.
In March, CJ E&M will select around 40 writers who will be given their individual studios for them to work. The studio will be resided in the CJ E&M facilities at Donga Digital Media Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul.
The company decided to have more hits drama or box-office movie such as the latest one “Master” which will be released internationally this January. Watch the special international trailer of the movie from official CJ Entertainment channel below:
