On the January 3rd airing of JTBC's 'Hip Hop Nation 2', TEEN TOP's Changjo and his Swish team members, Joosuc, Basick , and Microdot staged their bid to stay in the competition. Their song "Boring" was a talk of the night. It thus featured A Pink's Namjoo and Changjo paired in the performance
Fans say it was a sensuous combination per Allkpop. Nevertheless, that did not keep Changjo in the battle. By the end of the show, he bowed out as soon as he got eliminated from the match.
Performance level
The performance had fiery rhymes, brisk and bouncy beats that roused the audience to go finger snapping. A sway with the music followed. Some started raising their hands to go after the beats as the lyrics in each track came topping one after another..
The shades of rap
While it ignited curiosity, how the artists would tackle the rap strategy was the main point. Observers say the genre does not match Changjo's musical forte.
The artists' voice lacks the color needed for a rap. It equates to a lower register and darker voice timbre to work at its best.
Changjo has finer tonality very fitting for a contemporary R and B pro artist like him. The failure to register low monotones and the variation of a high and low pitch is another.
Most of all, rap sounds are more beautiful if the performer carries a little bass in his singing per Musicindustryhowto. It is exactly the opposite of Changjo's singing routine.
In the show, his rendition, observers say, lacks the sustainability to vary tempo and speed having been used to a display of notes that follow a detained timing ( more often less brisk and speedy compared to a rap music). To top it all, his voice is too small.
It needed more effort to achieve a certain degree of being big and confident at the delivery he wishes to impart. It dropped sounds, shrill and almost like shouting at some point.
A miss in the match
The girl tone register came as A Pink's Namjoo joined him in the rap. Although deemed a sexy act for the couple, it doubled a reduced dark timber common in a female voice. It matched Changjo's already thin voice. The aftermath was a disaster to the genuine rap that the contest is all about.
Following that night, Changjo took to his Twitter account and communicated with his followers. He stated that the experience belongs to a good memory. He summoned the fans to look forward to more from him and the Teen Top's boyband. Furthermore, he vowed to give the fans a better image.
