Tornados Rip Through Texas; Six Dead In Twisters, Authorities Warn That Numbers Could Rise

Tornados ripped through northern Texas last night, leaving about 50 injured and at least six dead.

Authorities warned the community that the death toll could still rise, with at least 14 people still unaccounted for, due to the Texas Tornados.

"The main concern is life safety and finding any victims that still need our help," Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said at a press conference today.

The hardest hit area was around Granbury, Texas, a town of 8,000 people about 35 miles southwest of Dallas-Fort Worth according to Yahoo. Granbury was hit around 8 p.m by the tornados.

The six victims confirmed dead were located in a neighborhood called Ranco Brazos. Rancho Brazos consisted of about 110 single family homes in an area of Granbury that dealt with the worst winds.

Preliminary reports showed that the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Granbury 26 minutes before the twister struck, according to Mark Wiley, emergency response meteorologist at the agency's Forth Worth office, Yahoo reported.

Victims and the nation are reminded of the deadly fury of torandos from this deadly outbreak in Texas last night. Back in May of 2011 Joplin, Missouri, was struck with a terrible string of violent tornados killing 161 people and damaging 7,500 homes.

While no state is safe from tornados, Texas is unfortunately located in America's region nick named, "Tornado Alley."

"Tornado Alley," consists of northern Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, these three states dealing with the brunt of tornados. However, Nebraska and South Dakota are also included in "Tornado Alley."

More severe storms could be coming to Texas, parts of Arkansas and northern Louisiana later on Thursday, said Corey Mead, forecaster at NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma. But he said the possible tornadoes would be in northeast Texas, not in the area hit on Wednesday night according to Yahoo.
