Popular girl group I.O.I officially disbanded on the 29th of January, and the fan cafe closed down on 31st of January. Before the disbandment, I.O.I made their last television appearance on MBC's 'Section TV'. During the show, members shared their thoughts about disbandment, future dreams and also about the possibility for a reunion.
I.O.I was formed by CJ E&M as a temporary group through the reality show 'Produce 101' on 'Mnet' in 2016. The group was composed of eleven members chosen from a pool of 101 trainees from various entertainment companies. Throughout 2016, the girls actively promoted the group and achieved huge popularity and success within a very short period of time. They came out with hit songs like 'Dream Girls', 'Pick Me', 'Whatta Man', and 'Very Very Very'. On 22nd of January, the group released their final farewell song 'Downpour'.
During the Section TV interview, member Yoo Yeonjung said:
"It's so sad to be going our separate ways, we promised that we'd meet again in five years". When the interviewer asked about the future reunion, Kim Sejeong replied, "We're all in eight different agencies, so it's hard to get together. If someone invites us, we'll definitely all come on a show no matter what it is, so please invite all of us in five years!"
