George Michael Injured In M1 Car Crash; Passenger Airlifted To London Hospital For Treatment Of Head Injury

George Michael has been injured after a car crash. George Michael's publicist confirmed that the singer is being treated for minor injuries after the accident.

On Friday, a statement was released saying Michael was in a car accident, as a passenger, on Thursday night. The statement said George Michael suffered "superficial cuts and bruises" and is "fine."

The statement doesn't mention any other cars involved.

Sky News reported that the car crash occurred on the M1 motorway. Another man traveling with Michael was injured in the crash and taken by airlift to a London hospital for the treatment of a head injury.

Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson told Sky News, "A man who we believe to be in his 40's sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilization and immobilization by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to a hospital for further care."

A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said, "The exact circumstances of what happened are unclear at this time and until further investigations have been carried out it would be inappropriate for us to comment further."

Three lanes of the M1 motorway and the slip road from the M25 were closed after the crash, causing severe traffic during yesterday's rush hour, according to UK's The Sun.

This isn't George Michael's first traffic-related incident. In 2010, Michael received an 8-week jail sentence for crashing his SUV while under the influence of marijuana. The incident prompted Michael to say he wanted to "start over."
