Internet Celebrity "Kai The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" Arrested For Murder Of Alleged Rapist [VIDEO]

Internet celebrity "Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" has been arrested for murder. Kai the hitchhiker became an Internet celebrity thanks to an act of heroism and a funny, gutsy local TV interview.

Now, "Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" has been captured by police at the Greyhound Bus station in Philadelphia. His real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary.

"Kai" McGillvary, 24, became a beloved viral sensation from a Feb. 1 incident in Fresno, California. He saw a man attack a utility worker with a car and assault a woman at a gas station. To stop the attack, he hit the man on the back of the head three times with a hatchet. His local TV interview went viral, and he later appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where Kimmel gave him a surfboard as a gift.

McGillvary is homeless but considers himself "homefree" and relies on the kindness of strangers. Other aliases include Kai Lawrence, Caleb Kai Lawrence and Kai Nicodemus.

The victim, Joseph Galfy, was found dead inside his New Jersey home as a result of "blunt force trauma", according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Apparently, Kai met Galfy, an attorney, near Times Square; a surveillance camera confirmed this. The two later went back to the victim's house. On Tuesday, Kai posted a graphic description of being raped by the man on his Facebook page.

Some fans in South Jersey took him to a train station. He said he was headed to Philadelphia and then Georgia.

Kai has been charged with murder in Union County, NJ and bail has been set at $3 million by Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim.

"I am grateful for the overwhelming response and dedicated effort by the public and law enforcement that led to this arrest," said Romankow. "I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets."
