$6 Bill, $446 Tip At An Indiana Steak N' Shake: The Tip Was Not From JR Smith Who Was At The Restaurant With A 101 Degree Fever And A Playoff Game The Next Night

The $6 bill, $446 tip is trending on Friday in part because New York Knicks star JR Smith was at the restaurant the same night in which he received criticism from the media for going out before a game while sick with a 101-degree fever.

CeCe Bruce works at a Steak N' Shake in Indianapolis and was the waitress for the $6 bill, $446 tip while the Knicks were on the road for two games against the Pacers in the NBA playoffs. The big-tip belonged to Miss Joe, not JR Smith.

The part-time student at Martin University in Indianapolis told WTHR she worked at the restaurant for two years, and she said she never received a tip quite like this for the $6 bill, $446 tip.

In total, the bill was $5.97. Smith as Miss Joe ordered one burger and a soda. When CeCe Bruce went to pick up the receipt, she told the radio outlet that she thought it was a $46 tip, which she said was surprising enough itself.

"When I looked again, I said 'Oh my gosh, Miss Jo, I'm not taking that!' And she said, 'Yes, you're taking it,' Bruce told WTHR.

Bruce's general manager Greer Gooley said the waitress is worth every penny of the massive tip.

"She stays late, comes in early. Whenever we need her, she's here. So she deserves it more than anyone," Gooley told local station WISH. "It just lets servers know that you work hard and it does pay off. There are people out there that [if] you do your job people reward you for it."
