New American Idol Judges For Season 13: Big Makeover Expected For Show’s Upcoming Season

Will there be new American Idol judges for Season 13? According to TheWrap, the current slate of judges – Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban will all get the boot to save the former ratings champ. An insider told TheWrap, as reported by the HuffingtonPost, that “all four are gone.” According to the source, “They feel they’ve lost their core audience and they want it back.”

Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe will also be shown the door said the insider. The reportedly high-profile change of personnel is part of an effort to reinvigorate the series that’s struggling in the ratings department. The rumored makeover also includes eliminating dated theme-nights with the goal of attracting a younger audience. The dated themes and stale format have been complaints of current “Idol” critics for this season, now that the show has fallen to new ratings low and is often bested by “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family.” NBC’s “The Voice” has also dethroned the series in the singing competition category, where it once reigned for numerous seasons.

The rumored dismissal of the current set of judges has been all over for the past few weeks. At one point, there was a report that “Idol” had attempted to replace carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez and soon after, another rumor surfaced stating that Minaj will likely be shown the door. Carey’s husband Nick Cannon, also hinted at his wife’s future exit from the show.

Cannon said, “In the book of Mariah Carey, 'American Idol' will be a footnote.”

Fox and Fremantle declined to comment on the story, including a representative for American Idol Judge Keith Urban.

Despite the diving ratings of the singing competition, “American Idol” is still a huge revenue stream for Fox, as it had brought in $836.4 million in ad revenue last year, according to Kantar Media.
