Hyolyn, of the K-pop girl group, SISTAR, is reported to be trying her luck in EDM, after pursuing a hiphop music career together with her group. Starship Entertainment, the agency company of SISTAR, has just announced that Spinnin' Records, a well known EDM record company, has signed a contract deal with Hyorin.
Because of this, Hyolyn is the first Asian artist to sign an EDM deal. According to Yonhap News, Hyolyn would be doing collaboration with Justin Oh. The collaboration would then be released this March.
Spinnin' Records is a record label company that is based in the Netherlands. It is considered to be one of the biggest EDM record companies to date.
Some of its artists include world-renowned EDM artists like Hardwell, Martin Garrix and Tiesto. This is surely a big honor for Hyolyn as she will be in the levels of some of the most prominent names in the world of EDM.
Hyolyn would also be participating in South by Southwest (SXSW), which is one of the biggest music festivals in the world. This will be her chance to cement her hold in the EDM music genre.
According to Soompi, Hyolyn has recently showed her other side as she was one of the contestants in "Unpretty Rapstar". It showed her versatile she can get. Perhaps it was also one of the reasons why she was noticed by Spinnin' Records.
This just shows that getting a little dose of versatility and taking on a little bit of risk would surely help one to land on greater heights. Hyolyn is the proof of that principle as she took the risk in trying out hip hop and rapping, despite her being the leading vocalist of SISTAR.
Knowing that she has the skills, talent and innate passion and charm in music, there is no doubt that she will do pretty well in the world of EDM music.
