Song Joong Ki News: 'Descendants Of The Sun' Actor To Receive Top Award At Korean Producer Awards

"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong Ki will receive yet another accolade for his portrayal of loyal soldier Captain Yoo Si-Jin in the KBS 2 hit action drama. It has been announced that the actor will receive top honors at the Korean Producer Awards.

According to a report by Soompi, Song Joong Ki will get the award for Best Performer for the 29th Korea Producer Awards held by the Korean Producers and Directors Association. Song Joong Ki will reportedly be present to receive his award.

The prestigious award was won by Ji Sung last year for the successful drama "Kill Me, Heal Me." The award seeks to recognize the contributions made by performers, production crews for television and radio in the field of broadcasting, Naver Entertainment reported.

It can be recalled that his role in "Descendants of the Sun" catapulted Song Joong Ki to the top of the list of Korean drama leading men. While he has already appeared in dramas like "Sungkyungkwan Scandal" and "An Innocent Man", "Descendants of the Sun" paired him with the other half of the Song Song couple, Song Hye Kyo, and made him a household name in Asia and in the US.

Song Joong Ki will be appearing next in the movie "Battleship Island," a historical film that depicts the story of 400 Koreans who attempted to escape Hashima Island where they are forced to servitude by mining coal. Song Joong Ki will take on the role of soldier Park Moo Yeong, who sneaks into the island to save a key person in the independence movement.

Song Joong Ki will star in the movie alongside veteran actors Hwang Jung Min and So Ji Sub. The film is directed by Ryoo Seung-Wan and will be shown simultaneously in China and Korea in the later half of 2017. No official release date has been set for the movie.
