Just recently, SMTOWN has just reached another milestone as it had surpassed the 10 million YouTube subscribers mark, making their artists as one of the most popular K-pop icons in the industry.
Because of this, SMTOWN makes history as it became the very first Korean YouTube channel to reach such a feat. It will surely help in inspiring more Korean artists to do the best of what they can, as SMTOWN proves that Korean influence is indeed going global.
According to Yonhap News, because of the extraordinary and groundbreaking feat SMTOWN has achieved, YouTube has decided to award the SMTOWN channel the "Diamond Play Button" award for the recently achieved milestone.
It is worth noting that there are four level awards in YouTube. The biggest video sharing platform awards its subscribers with this in order to motivate them to bring out their best with their videos. For channels that reach 100,000 subscribers, YouTube gives a Silver Award.
A Gold Award is then given to a channel that reaches 1 million subscribers, a Diamond Award for 10 million subscribers, and ultimately a Ruby Award for a channel that reaches 50 million subscribers. Youtube sure knows how to keep its users motivated.
SMTOWN is the company agency of some of the most popular K-pop groups and celebrities in the industry. This includes Girls' Generation, Super Juniors, f(x), SHINEee and EXO.
However, the most interesting thing about this is that 90 percent of the subscribers of SMTOWN are all foreigners. This only means one thing, and that Korean pop culture has indeed spread throughout the whole world.
The SMTOWN channel has now 2,249 videos. It also has more than 5.9 billion hits. With all of these being said, it can clearly be seen that K-pop culture will continue to thrive in the next years to come, probably even more.
