With the announcement of Lee Min Ho's military enlistment starting May 12, fans are wondering what will happen to the rumored plans for a "Legend of the Blue Sea" sequel. Prior to the announcement made by MYM Entertainment about the actor's enlistment, speculations have been growing that SBS is considering a sequel to the successful fantasy drama.
According to a report by Korea Portal, the rumored sequel will revolve around Lee Min Ho's character Joon Jae who will raise his children on his own after Jun Ji Hyun's character Sim Chung passes away. The report hinted that the lead female role will be taken over by Lee Min Ho's real life girlfriend Suzy Bae.
While the sequel is yet to be confirmed by SBS, it would seem that any possible plans would have to wait until Lee Min Ho completes the two-year requirement for his mandatory service. Unlike other actors, Lee Min Ho will not be required to undergo five-week training in a military boot camp because of a leg injury he sustained from a car accident back in 2006.
It can be recalled that Lee Min Ho, along with his good friend and fellow actor Jung Il Sung figured in a serious car accident in 2006 which required the actor to have a metal rod inserted on to his leg. Instead of reporting for military and subsequent training for conscripted service, the actor has been instructed to report as a social service worker in Gangnam.
In an earlier interview, Lee Min Ho said that he was sad that he had to separate with his fans for two years while he fulfilled his duties as a Korean male citizen. He will however, be appearing in the documentary "DMZ, The Wild" in June, his final project before he reports for mandatory service, Kpopstarz reported.
