Iran Hangs "Spies" At Dawn That Iran Claims Were American And Israeli Secret Agents

Iran hangs spies: On Sunday, Iran hung two men it is claiming were spies for the USA's CIA and Mossad, the Israeli secret service. The men's names were Mohammad Heidari and Kourosh Ahmadi.

Iran is claiming that Heidari passed information that was highly classified to Mossad. He allegedly was paid to do so. Ahmadi was accused of passing information to the CIA that was classified as well.

Iran hasn't spoken about when or where the men were arrested or convicted. It did say that the sentence of death by hanging was handed out via Tehran's Revolutionary Court, then was confirmed by its Supreme Court.

The deaths may have been in a public hanging. An advocacy group, the Human Rights Activists News Agency, has reported that there have been roughly 488 hangings in the past year, and that around 12 percent of those were public executions.

Officials in Israel haven't had comment so far. US officials said they had no role in the killings. Ahmadi and Heiradi are not confirmed as spies or as connected to the CIA or any Israeli intelligence agency or Mossad.

Iran also recently hung Majid Jamali Fashi, who was accused of assassinating an Iranian scientist. Last year, Iran alleged that Mossad gave Fashi $120,000 to kill a physicist, Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, who was involved with Iran's nuclear program.

Ahmadi and Heiradi were killed at dawn, according to Iranian reports.
