BTS has officially overtaken world renowned artists' spots on multiple Billboard charts. The idol group, who has concluded its US Wings Tour, recently sets a new milestone by surpassing One Direction's record on the top of the chart for 22 weeks.
SBS Pop Asia reported, BTS has been staying at the top spot of Billboard Top 50 chart since October 2016, while One Direction was only able to keep the spot for 8 weeks. The idol group debuted in 2013 has been consistently claiming the first and second positions on the chart since its entry.
With its fantastic track-record, so far Rap Monster and co. only falls behind Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift on overall rankings. The "Love Yourself" songster landed the top spot for 161 weeks, while his competitor Taylor Swift only lasted for 28 weeks. It wouldn't be impossible for Bangtan Boys to surpass Taylor Swift's 28-week-record, considering the massive success BTS has garnered this year through its fantastic album sales and viewership records over the year.
According to Korea Portal, BTS has previously surpassed numerous top singers Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. BTS frontman, Rap Monster said his group wouldn't be able to set those fantastic records without the help of ARMY, BTS fandom. ARMY has been known for its massive campaign on helping BTS gains international recognition.
As of now, BTS' fans have started a hashtag campaign on social media to help the idol group wins The Top Social Artist Award on Billboard Music Awards that will be aired on May 21. Hashtag #BTSBBMAs has been on the first spot of Twitter's Worldwide Trending Topic.
Meanwhile, BTS is the only K-Pop artist to be nominated for the awards. The idol group competes against Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande. Hopefully, this year's top-selling idol group will set a new milestone by bringing home the Top Social Artist awards from one of the most prestigious music awards.
