CBS Pulls Tornado Finale of Mike & Molly

CBS pulled the tornado-themed finale of the sitcom “Mike & Molly, because of the Oklahoma tornados. The Oklahoma tornado is one of the most destructive storms in recent history. The Monroe tornado left at least 10 dead and dozens injured. The final episode of the “Mike & Molly” comedy was about a tornado hitting Chicago.

A CBS spokesperson said in a statement “Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of ‘Mike & Molly,’ which has a related storyline. A repeat broadcast of ‘Mike & Molly’ will run in the time period.”

The episode of the sitcom dealt with Mike and Carl, his police partner, being on the job as a tornado hits Chicago. The network will run the tornado-themed final episode at “an appropriate date.”

The description of the episode states: "Mike and Carl get stuck working at the Renaissance Faire after their boss, Patrick, gets dumped by Mike's mother. Later, as a tornado descends on Chicago, Mike and Molly each confess important news to each other."

An enormous tornado blew through Oklahoma City and its suburbs on Monday. It landed a “direct hit” on an elementary school. The mile-wide twister was one of over 50 devastating storms that have reaping havoc on the Midwest since Sunday.

"Mike & Molly" was recently renewed for a fourth season by CBS, so it’s all set for a 22-episode season. The network hasn’t found a slot on its fall schedule yet though. The comedy stars Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy. McCarthy first gained recognition for her role as Sookie St. James on the TV series “The Gilmore Girls,” but her breakout comedic performance was in the 2011 megahit
comedy “Bridesmaids” which she starred in alongside Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper. McCarthy was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her work as host on Saturday Night Live.

“Mike & Molly” will probably return in the mid-season.
