Angry Mob Pelts Man With Fists After Believing Him To Be Pedophile Sex Crime Suspect; Man Innocent

Angry mob pelts man mistakenly believed to be responsible for the sex crimes in their Colorado neighborhood. After police saved the man from the mob, he turns out to be innocent.

According to ABC News the mob had been riled up after police had failed to inform them about sex assaults against children. They took matters into their own hands and things turned bloody, in Pueblo, Colorado.

Pueblo police later released the man after lack of evidence.

One of the angry members of the mob, Alex Pacheco, told the Associated Press, the angry mob was comprised of neighborhood residents looking for a pedophile suspected of two sex crimes in their neighborhood, who police had not warned residents about.

The angry mob took the matter up themselves and began canvassing the neighborhood in an effort to find the perpetrator.

The angry mob got word of a man matching the suspect's description and jumped into action.

After surrounding the would-be assailant, the angry mob pelted the man with rocks and punched him before police arrived and shoved the man into a waiting police car to take him to the station for questioning.

Pueblo Police Capt. Tom Rummell said  "The primary officer on the scene said get him out of here."

The man did not sustain any serious injuries.

Pacheco told a local newspaper, the angry mob who pelted the man, were angry over the sex crimes over the last couple months.

On incident involved the sexual assault of a girl in her home. In another incident a man was said to have exposed himself to another child.

Said Pacheco: "We went through the right channels in contacting the police but there hasn't been much response. We can't wait around any longer without doing something. These are children that this man is after and we can't let any more children get hurt by him."

Police Capt. Rummell said police notified the media about the attacks and posted reminders on social media about the attacks, but were not required to inform residents since there was no suspect in custody.

Since the pedophile attacking children wore a mask during his assaults, the police didn't have a good description.

Police said the 54-year-old man, whose name was not released because no charges were filed, attacked by the angry mob and pelted with fists and rocks did not want to file charges.

The man reportedly understood the folks were reacting to a horrible situation and told the officer "I don't want to go that route," when asked if he wanted to press changes. He agreed to a DNA sample to clear himself of any wrongdoing.

Police Capt. Rummell said "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
