Kate Hudson, Zach Braff Now Starring Together In Kickstarter Movie 'Wish I Was Here' [Video]

Kate Hudson and Zach Braff are now starring together in Braff's Kickstarter movie, "Wish I Was Here," joining Many Patinkin, Anna Kendrick and Jim Parsons on the crowdsourced project funded by Kickstarter contributions from public donors.

Kate Hudson is set to star opposite director, Zach Braff, in his new indie movie, Wish I was Here, funded entirely from Kickstarter donations, reports Deadline.

The Kate Hudson-Zach Braff combo will be as wife and husband, reportedly, with Hudson set to star as Braff's character's wife and mother to his two children. Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad will play his father and brother, respectively.

Anna Kendrick, of Twilight fame, and Pitch Perfect, is also featured in the indie flick, as well as Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory.

Zach Braff's co-star on the television show "Scrubs," Donald Faison, will also appear in the indie film. The two stars of "Scrubs" are best friends forever in real life and play as such on the sitcom.

The Kate Hudson-Zach Braff film, Wish I Was Here had set a goal of $2 million for fiinancing the project, which is set to expire in three days. So far, they've raised over that goal, collecting $2,707,334 with time to spare.

Zach explained why he decided to finance his new indie production, and follow-up to his indie hit with Natalie Portman, 2004's Garden State, with public donations, saying on the film's Kickstarter page:

"I was about to sign a typical financing deal in order to get the money to make "Wish I Was Here," my follow up to "Garden State." It would have involved making a lot of sacrifices I think would have ultimately hurt the film. I've been a backer for several projects on Kickstarter and thought the concept was fascinating and revolutionary for artists and innovators of all kinds. But I didn't imagine it could work on larger-scale projects. I was wrong."

After Braff saw the incredible way Kristin Bell and series creator, Josh Schwartz, used Kickstarter get Veronica Mars film made, Braff decided Kickstarter was the easiest way to finance his newest independent film with final cut his own.

Braff's film, Wish I Was Here is, according to Braff himself "the story of Aidan Bloom (played by me), a struggling actor, father and husband, who at 35 is still trying to find his identity; a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he'd always dreamed he'd be as a little kid."

After the money runs out for his kids' private school, Aidan decides to homeschool them where the hijinks begin as he takes a less-than-traditional approach to their education.

You can still donate to the Kate Hudson Zach Braff film for the next three days, and then the next time you see it will probably be at a small independent theater near you.
