Tuesday was a sad day for all SISTAR fans. Their comeback album to be released by the end of the month will be the girl group's final one before they disband.
As reported by All Kpop, SISTAR's disbandment was confirmed in a statement by their agency Starship Entertainment on Tuesday, May 23. In their statement, the agency revealed that SISTAR will be officially disbanding after the release of their final album.
"SISTAR's disbandment is a very disappointing and a painful thing, but we believe that it is the best to support the road that each member wants," said Starship Entertainment. "We will be doing our best to support the members' futures."
To end their statement, the agency hoped for SISTAR fans to continue supporting them in whichever path they take in the near future. The agency is also to discuss with each of the members regarding their individual contracts.
Similarly, SISTAR members each wrote a letter addressed to their fans. As reported by Soompi, SISTAR members' letters generally expressed how it was a good run in the music industry with their loyal fans.
The letters also expressed their gratefulness towards the fans that have been with them from the start. SISTAR members also hoped to have their fans' continuous support with their future endeavors.
Shortly after the announcement of their disbandment, SISTAR released a 52-second long video teaser. The teaser clip can be seen on their official Twitter account.
The video was also accompanied by an acrostic poem with the letters from "SISTAR". The poem can also be seen in the video.
SISTAR has been in the Korean pop music industry for 7 years now, debuting in 2010 with "Push Push". The group's most notable songs are "So Cool", "Loving U", "Give it To Me", and their 2016 hit songs "Touch My Body", "I Swear", and "I Like That".
