Seth McFarlane Declines Oscar Host Nomination; Recommends Joaquin Phoenix On Twitter

Seth McFarlane charmed last year's crowd at the Oscars, but the Family Guy producer is now saying that he will not be delivering laughs this year. On his Twitter handle, McFarlane posted that he simply can't find the time to host the Oscars again.

So the question on everyone's minds is, "Who will it be?" Last year, along with Amy Poehler, Tina Fey hosted the Golden Globes. The funny-woman's response to now hosting this year's Oscars was, "I think that's too hard. Too many dresses to try on."

On a more serious note, she added, "It's a really difficult room. High levels of stress are shooting out of just about everyone there. The Golden Globes are less pressure. It's like an exhibition game for the real season."

In his Twitter rant about his resignation from the gig, McFarlane suggested Joaquin Phoenix as a joke.  The "Walk the Line," star, who took all of 17 seconds to accept his best actor award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association in January, isn't a likely candidate.

MacFarlane's withdrawal will likely appease some members of the Hollywood community who didn't appreciate his humor. His jokes and infamous boob song drew criticism that ranged from being  juvenile to misogynistic. But despite the offensiveness of some remarks, ratings for the show were up significantly, including an 11 percent jump in the demo.

MacFarlane is currently directing and appearing in "A Million Ways to Die in the West," a stud-studded Western headlined by Amanda Seyfried and Charlize Theron. With too much on his plate, the Oscars are a far cry.

What any prospective Oscar host must consider, beyond the time commitment and what Baldwin calls the "chicken feed" pay, is whether the effort is worth all the trouble. The show has defeated comedians including Jon Stewart, David Letterman and Chris Rock. Who will be the next victim?
