American Idol Contestant Claims Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj Feud Was Overblown

"American Idol" runner-up Kree Harrison confessed that despite heavy media attention, the alleged tension between judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj was exaggerated.

"First of all, there's so much going on, the drama of whatever happens on or off camera, there's literally, it's chaos during the live show," Harrison told MTV.com.

"You don't pay any attention to anything but where you're supposed to be. I mean, I love Nicki; I love Mariah. We would get a kick out of [the fact that] they would talk to each other at all. So whether it was good or bad, we liked it. I'm a big fan of all of them."

Despite the divas' on-air bickering, "American Idol" finished its twelfth season at an all-time low, averaging only 13.3 million viewers, reported Fox News.

Compared to its average peak of 30.6 million viewers during season five, the fates of the judges are left unanswered for its upcoming revamp.

"This cast didn't work," said Yahoo! Music Managing Editor Lyndsey Parker.

"What this panel didn't have going for it was chemistry. They didn't seem to like each other. All the feuding set the season off on a bad note and alienated the show's core fan base."

And yet according to Harrison, the alleged feud never presented a problem off-camera.

"I mean I didn't really see a whole lot of anything," she said. "You literally go off stage and you're on to the next thing."

"They're not any different than they are on camera, off camera. There was never any drama, we feel, like that we saw."
