'Star Trek: Into The Darkness' Alice Eve Underwear Scene 'Gratuitous' Says Apologetic Director Damon Lindelof [Pic & Video]

Alice Eve in her underwear undercuts her character, Dr. Carol Marcus, in the new Star Trek film from "Lost" director, Damon Lindelof.

Lindelof apologized for the "gratuitous" scene and sent tweets defending himself for putting Alice Eve in her underwear.

Star Trek: Into The Darkness has only been out for a week, but director Damon Lindelof is already on the defensive about actress, Alice Eve in her underwear.

In a letter to MTV, the director of Lost and the current iteration of the Star Trek reboot with J.J. Abrams, Damon attempted to explain the decision.

Writes Lindelof:

"Why is Alice Eve in her underwear, gratuitously and unnecessarily, without any real effort made as to why in God's name she would undress in that circumstance?

Well there's a very good answer for that. But I'm not telling you what it is. Because... uh... MYSTERY?"

This was during a back-and-forth with MTV's Josh Horowitz, but that wasn't really an apology was it?

But then Lindelof took to Twitter to defend himself. Damon has been a notorious Twitter user and abuser since Lost came out and pissed everyone off with it's not very filling ending.

Here's what Lindelof has written on his Twitter account as regards the Alice Eve gratuitous underwear scene.

Alice Eve has actually taken her clothes off a few times before, most notably in a very sexy scene from her movie, She's Out of My League.

Aside from Alice Eve's sexiness, we've also been on the Alice Eve boyfriend alert recently, which is a code red now. She was seen dancing with Bradley Cooper at the 2013 BAFTA Awards in February, but we like to think she's still available.

But we doubt regardless of what Damon Lindelof tweets, how well Star Trek does at the box office and with "Trekkers", or whether the underwear scene with Alice Eve was gratuitous, we can tell you she is really hot.

That much is certain, but whether it was demeaning to get Alice Eve in her skivvies for no real reason? That we'll leave up to the certified sociologists who populate Twitter.
