A 62-year old witness, Xavier Gorospe, living near the river, stated that he could see three vehicles in the water, each vehicle having one person. "It doesn't look like anybody's in danger right now," Gorospe said. The cars were just sitting unmoving in the water, with partial parts of the cars submerged and some parts above the waterline. The drivers were seen either sitting on the edge of the open windows of the car or sitting on the top of the vehicles.

A red car and a pick-up truck both destructed because of the I-5 bridge collapse were visible in the water. Apparently, the water appears to be shallow as it barely reaches the top area of the vehicle's hood.

Built in 1995, the bride has a sufficiency rating of only 57.4 out of 100, well below the statewide average ratings acquired which is 80. According to the federal records, 759 bridges in Washington have lower sufficiency score, as well.
