Is This The End of Girls' Generation - Which Members Did Not Renew Contracts?

Devastating news has befallen the SONE fandom as it was officially announced on October 9th that 3 members of the iconic K-Pop girl group, Girls' Generation, will not be renewing their contracts with SM Entertainment. The agency and the members revealed their reasons down below.

According to various media outlets, with Illgan Sports News being the first to report the sad news, members Tiffany Sooyoung, and Seohyun will no longer be a part of Girls' Generation or SM Entertainment. SM Entertainment's CEO Kim Yung Min responded to the reports and commotion by saying, "There are 3 members whose contracts have come to an end. The future of Girls' Generation's promotions will be carefully decided after discussion with the remaining 5 members."

Girls' Generation, who debuted back in 2007, had suffered the loss (or removal, however you view it) of original member Jessica back in 2014 which dropped the official lineup count to 8. Jessica continued being a solo artist and also established her own fashion line and brand soon after. Now, fans wonder if Tiffany, Seohyun, and Sooyoung can follow in her steps and manage their successful careers on their own?

SM stated that the 3 members have decided to follow a career in acting rather than group activities. While Tiffany will be working abroad and studying in America, members Seohyun and Sooyoung will continue their modeling and acting careers within Asia. SM Entertainment ended their statements by saying, Girls' Generation is a very precious and meaningful group to both SM Entertainment and fans. The members are not thinking to disband. However, we must think of future promotions carefully."

The remaining 5 members Taeyeon, YoonA, Sunny, Hyoyeon and Yuri will continue promoting as Girls' Generation as well as fulfilling their solo activities. The group has (technically) made a final goodbye with "Holiday" and "All Night." Stay tuned for more updates and the future of this ever-changing girl group.
