I-5 bridge collapsed on Thursday evening in Mount Vernon, Washington over the Skagit River due to an oversized truck hitting the span.

The bridge collapse caused drivers and cars alike to fall into the waters of the Skagit River, and survivors were seen crawling out of their cars to safety.

The I-5 bridge, or the Interstate 5 bridge, is the main interstate freeway along the West Coast. Due to the bridge collapse, traffic on the freeway was totally disrupted.

This was a shocking incident, as the bridge had been inspected twice last year and repairs have been made, according to Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson.

From the I-5 bridge collapse, two vehicles fell into the water when the structure was crumbling. Three individuals were rescued from the collapse and are now recovering.

The truck that caused the bridge collapse was able to safely exit the bridge, and the truck driver cooperated with investigators at the scene.

Fortunately, no one lost their lives in the bridge collapse.

"We don't think anyone else went into the water. At this point we're optimistic," said Marcus Deyerin as spokesperson for the Northwest Washington Incident Management Team.

According to witnesses of the I-5 bridge collapse, the bridge failure was a sudden surprise.

Jeremiah Thomas, a volunteer firefighter who was driving nearby, said, "The bridge just went down; it crashed through the water. It was really surreal."

Jimmy O'Connor, who was driving on a nearby bridge, also said, "It's not something you see every day. People were starting to crawl out of their cars."

Due to the bridge collapse, delays are expected on Interstate 5, and detours have been set up to avoid congestion.

Survivors were thankful that the I-5 bridge collapse did not cause any casualties.

Dan Sligh, who was driving on I-5, said "You're kind of pinching yourself and realize you're lucky to be alive."
