The excitement for the star-studded period fantasy drama "Asadal Chronicles" continues to soar. After releasing a poster last April 30, TVN has also confirmed its release date -- which is on June 1 at 9 p.m. KST.
The series, starring Song Joong Ki, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, and Kim Ok Bin, will replace the drama, "Confession." It will revolve around the lives of ancient mythical heroes with the fictional city of Asadal as the main setting.
The recently uploaded poster bears a profound phrase which says "The beginning of all legends of the world," that further piqued the curiosity of the audience. It features a dramatic image of mountain ranges with a flock of bird flying over it and an enigmatic character seeing the scene from a top of another land form.
It was also revealed that "Asadal Chronicles" will be broadcasted in three different parts, the first two of which containing twelve episodes in total. The pilot part is called "The Children of Prophecy," while the second part is titled "The Sky Turning Inside Out, Rising Land." In these portions, the viewers will be introduced to the characters and to the main point of the story.
The third part, "Asadal, The Prelude to All Legends," will see the characters reach a turning point, serving as the climax of the meticulously laid out build-up of the plot. It is set for release in the latter half of the year.
This multi-part broadcast is expected to create and sustain the hype for one of the most anticipated and expensive dramas of 2019. Previous reports stated that its estimated production cost is at approximately $352 million (or 400 billion won).
Apart from its TVN broadcast, the show will also be released in the video streaming platform, Netflix. To be unveiled in early June, the series will be introduced to the global audience in its English title, "Arthdal Chronicles."
Though there are no exact dates of release for other regions and continents, Asia-located Netflix viewers are expected to be able to watch the program an hour after its Korean broadcast.
Meanwhile, the production team behind the series remarked that the audience should anticipate how they worked hard to transform their imaginative ideas for the ancient world into an effective and gripping drama production.
"We did our best to depict the intense feeling of the city Asadal, which will play a key part in 'Asadal Chronicles. Watch how [the drama] will portray the lives and fate of ancient civilization and ancient humanity, which were only feasible in our imaginations," they remarked.
