Henry is Set for a Solo Comeback this May, His First Since SM Entertainment Departure

Since his departure from SM Entertainment - his label of 10 years - singer-songwriter-actor Henry is finally making his long-awaited solo comeback.

"Henry will release a pre-release single on May 9," his own label, Monster Entertainment Group, revealed last April 30.

The date of announcement is coincidentally the same date when Label SJ (the sub-label of SM Entertainment handling the activities of Super Junior) announced that Henry is already parting ways with them.

Back then, the company said that though his exclusive contract has recently expired, both parties "have ended on good terms."

While he was an SM Entertainment talent, the K-pop star was part of Super Junior-M, a subunit of the group Super Junior. First introduced in 2008 alongside Zhou Mi, the subunit went on to release two studio albums, one soundtrack album, and three mini albums.

In 2013, he made his solo debut with his EP, "Trap," which featured Super Junior's Kyuhyun and SHINEE's Taemin. His endeavor as a solo act back then was the first for any SM male artist in a span of 13 years.

In February 2018, two months shy of his SM departure, he released a track called "Monster." Co-penned with Bazzi, it served as his last official solo music under his former label.

According to the statement of his current label, his upcoming single will be part of a soon-to-be-released album. In an exclusive interview with Billboard, the 29-year-old K-pop versatile wants "to show a certain sound, type of performance, or concept" in his long-overdue solo comeback.

"This time, I just want the golden melodies -- I'm just all about melodies, the chords, and lyrics. It's just me. You can expect a lot of very melodic stuff this time," he further hinted.

Asked about the languages he will be using for his music (Henry is a trilingual), he shared that "certain songs do work better" for "certain languages." Though nothing was concrete yet at the time of the interview, Henry said that "everyone can expect everything."

"I know it's been a long time since I released some stuff and this is my actual album so I'm going to put everything into it," he further told Billboard.

In the first photo teaser of his comeback, Henry is seen heartfeltly crooning while playing the piano inside a warmly-lit room. In a separate 15-second video teaser, the focus is now turned to him thinking what title should he write on the musical sheet of the song.
