Confirmed: Girl Group PRISTIN Officially Disbands

Two years after their debut, 10-piece girl group PRISTIN has now officially disbanded according to a report by Yonhap News on May 24.

Their agency, Pledis Entertainment, has also released a statement to confirm the said news: "The company and the members had in-depth discussions for a long time and deliberated before coming to a mutual agreement. It has been decided that with the exclusion of members Kyulkyung, Yehana, Sungyeon; seven members (Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Xiyeon, and Kyla) will have their exclusive contracts terminated as of May 24, 2019."

Apologizing for the group's disbandment, the agency clarified that "a lot of time was given in thinking about this matter."

As for the career of the three remaining who renewed their contracts with them, Pledis noted that they vow to support them and help them be more active and hold diverse activities.

The company also thanked the departing PRISTIN members and wished them their best on the next chapter of their career. On Instagram, Kyla and Xiyeon wrote heartfelt letters to their fans called HIghs regarding their group's disbandment.

"Firstly, I'm sorry for writing to you with bad news. I was able to spend truly happy days thanks to High, who loved me steadfastly throughout my 11 years at Pledis and two years with PRISTIN. Thank you," Xiyeon posted.

Meanwhile, Kyla said that fans should take this time to look back on and be grateful for the memories they have shared together with the girl group.

"While Pristin has officially disbanded, I would like to ask you all not to be upset and angry, but rather joyous of the memories that we've had together and all of the amazing things we have accomplished," she wrote, further asking for support as a soloist.

"Moving forward, I hope you all will find it in your hearts to support me as Kyla Massie instead of Pristin Kyla," she further remarked.

Upon their debut just two years ago, PRISTIN has made their own mark in the K-pop scene through their hits "Wee Woo," "We," and "We Like" among others. They have received accolades including the Rookie of the Year award from the 2017 Asia Artist Awards.
