There's no doubt that BTS had already made a name of their own. They dominate charts not only in Korea but in the whole world. They enter charts in the UK and even sweep numbers in America. Fans flock around them. They fill concert arenas all over the world; even Wimbley isn't an exception. They make girls swoon by their hip thrusts and raspy voices. They do wonders. They make history. They bet records and set new ones.
Eye candies, talented eye candies, that's what they are.
But loving BTS is not something I did overnight. I have enjoyed listening to a lot of Kpop groups, and I still love them until now. But I guess my affection towards this band is way above that I don't even know how I can explain it. It's immeasurable. It's fascinating.
There's this one phrase that RM, Bangtan's leader, said that inspires me and made me love them. He said, "Our lyrics deal with real issues that face all humans: choices in life, depression, self-esteem. And the fans know that we are there for them, and they are there for us."
For some, it may be a simple message, but for me, it made me feel that I am not alone, that I have someone who cares for me, that someone understands. For me, it is essential that I don't feel alone.
For someone who had been battling depression for quite some time, it has been hard for me to reach out to people. But after listening to their songs and understanding the meaning behind these songs, I feel like finally, there is someone who understands me, someone who won't judge for something that I think.
I live apart from my family, and though I am already of age, it was never easy for me to reach out to people and express myself. Listening to their songs and understanding its meaning makes me view life a little differently. It makes me realize that I am still lucky in so many ways and that I am indeed crucial in this society. It makes me realize that no matter how hard life may be, I am not alone.
I remember their speech in the UN whenever you are, whoever you are, what your gender is, the color of your skin speak yourself. Maybe this is not precisely their speech, but I know to my heart that it is true. We are the ones who will make the path for our lives and not anybody else, not your neighbors, not your classmates nor officemates, not anyone but YOU.
