Funny, it may seem, but Hallyu fans are not actually experiencing drought from the inactiveness of their idols who are currently serving the military. Take, for example, EXO's Xiumin, SHINee's Key and Onew, 2AM's Jeong Jinwoon and Jo Kwon, BTOB's Changsub, INFINITE's Sunggyu, Wanna One's Yoon Ji Sung, and South Korean actors Kim Min Suk and Lee Jae Kyon who all recently worked together to record a military song. Reports added that they already capped off their recording and that the track is set to be released soon.
According to a source, instead of an army song that exudes masculinity, the group recorded a song that has a congenial element to it so that it will be easy for other soldiers to sing along to. The source added to SpoTV News, "I've heard that the recording went well because celebrity military officers with excellent skills took part."
On Wednesday, July 24, vocal coach Hong Seokmin published a picture of the idols inside a recording booth. In his caption, he said, "Thank you for working hard. It must have been annoying to receive direction from me, haha. Anyway, I hope you'll finish your military life in good health." He also added the names of the Hallyu stars featured in his photo, as well as the hashtags, "#And #ChaHakYeon #LimSeungKyun."
It's also not unusual for idols and actors to perform and show off their talents while inside the military. As a matter of fact, in 2016, Super Junior's Shindong and Eunhyuk participated in a concert in the army along with a septet military band. The duo reportedly performed Psy's "Bell Bottoms" and Zico's "Boys and Girls."
The two was quoted telling their fellow armies:
"Thanks to you protecting the country at the forefront, we are able to perform our duties and the nation can be safe and carry on its activities. We're always grateful and we hope that you will carry out your lives as soldiers with good health."
Shindong added:
"Honestly, we were at first worried about whether the two of us could pull this off. That's why we did fully prepare by choosing song MRs ahead of time that the soldiers would like and even recording the chorus, but we had no idea they would like it this much and passionately follow along,"
Eunhyuk also commended the energetic state of the audience.
In the same year, the two teamed up with TVXQ's Yunho, who was also serving the military at the time, in a performance video for a military song. The video was published on the ROK Army Blog.
