South Korean pop-rock troupe The Rose is all set to return to the music scene with their newest offering, “Red,” arriving this month.
Last August 6, The Rose teased about their comeback and shared a group photo and a timeline detailing the promotions they will do ahead of “Red”’s release on the 13th; these include dropping concept photos as well as music video teasers.
Composed of Kim Woo-sung, Park Do-joon, Lee Ha-joon, and Lee Jae-hyeong, their August return comes nearly a year since they dropped their second EP called “Dawn.” The band, who first got their start as an indie act before breaking into the mainstream music consciousness in 2017 with their debut EP “Void,” is known for the hits “Sorry,” “Like We Used To,” and “She’s In The Rain.”
The Rose is also set to embark on a new world tour starting August 17. Billed as “We Rose You,” Their series of concert will kick off at the MUV Concert Hall in Seoul.
Last year, they played across different countries during their sold-out debut world tour, “Paint It Rose.”
The Rose continuously blooming presence in the K-pop scene is part of the resurgence of bands in a music world saturated by a plethora of girl and boy groups. Apart from the band which is currently signed with J&Star Company, other pop/alt-rock outfits making a name for themselves in the scene include JYP Entertainment’s Day6, FNC Entertainment’s Nflying, and indie act South Club (lead by frontman Nam Tae-hyun, a former WINNER member).
FNC Entertainment first started this movement of introducing bands to the mainstream scene in the 2000s with artists like CNBlue and FTIsland.
In an interview with Billboard, the band remarked that it is both a challenge and a wonderful privilege to be able to land a spot on the K-pop circuit. However, they made sure that if the audiences still aren't familiar with a sound like theirs, they will do their best to “make you listen to it” and “eventually love it.”
Since their mainstream debut, The Rose has already received nods from different music institutions, including “Most Promising Artist” at the 2018 International K-Music Awards.
