BLACKPINK and RED VELVET Bring Home Awards From Teen Choice Awards 2019

First, BLACKPINK won the "Choice Song: Group" award, all thanks to their track "DDU-DU DDU-DU." The group beat Imagine Dragons' "Bad Liar," 5 Seconds of Summer's "Easier," Panic! At The Disco's "Hey Look Ma, I Made It," Jonas Brothers' "Sucker," and Why Don't We's "8 Letters." The girls were also nominated in the other three categories such as International Artist, Fandom, and Summer Tour.

RED VELVET, on the other hand, was a nominee with their song "Close To Me (Red Velvet Remix)," featuring Ellie Goulding and Diplo, and earned the "Choice Electronic/Dance Song" award. They won against Zedd & Katy Perry's "365," The Chainsmokers & Bebe Rexha's "Call You Mine," Mark Ronson's "Find U Again," featuring Camila Cabello, Marshmello & Bastille's "Happier," The Chainsmokers & 5 Seconds of Summer's "Who Do You Love."

Aside from this achievement of BLACKPINK with "DDU-DU DDU-DU," the track also made history in the K-Pop industry. The music video for this song is the very first to reach 900 million views among the K-pop groups, and follows the MV's of Korean artist PSY - "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman." And as of August 12 at 10 p.m. KST, the MV for "DDU-DU DDU-DU" is already more than 915 million views.

RED VELVET's "Close To Me," which was released on April 5, 2019, is actually a remix of the original song sang by Ellie Goulding. The rendition features new Korean lyrics that add a new twist to the catchy melody and Ellie's unique voice. The single has already peaked at No. 27 on The Hot 100 upon its release, and this new K-Pop remix would help make it rank even higher.

Meanwhile, apart from these two K-Pop girl groups, boy group BTS also took home several awards from Teen Choice Awards 2019. They received the "Choice International Artist" award, winning over BLACKPINK, CNCO, EXO, Little Mix, and NCT 127. They also got the "Choice Collaboration" for their track "Boy With Luv" featuring Halsey, "Choice Summer Tour" for the group's "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" tour, and "Choice Fandom," where the ARMY, BTS's official fan club name, subdued BLINKs, Arianators, Swifties, and more.

Furthermore, MONSTA X made an appearance at the ceremony and performed, making them the first-ever K-Pop group to make a stage at the event.
