Alaska Airlines Flight Passengers Restrain Man Who Tried To Open Emergency Exit During Flight

The FBI is reporting that a man tried to open an emergency exit on a recent Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Portland, Oregon. Passengers restrained the man using seat belt extensions and shoelaces.

On Monday, the Associated Press reports, the FBI announced that a man has been taken into custody after attempting to open the emergency exit door as an Alaskan Airlines flight was descending.

Thankfully, the passengers on the Alaskan Airlines flight, thwarted his moves, and restrained him using a combination of seat belt extensions and shoelaces.

No one was reportedly hurt during the ordeal, except psychologically.

The man in question, Alexander Michael Herrera, made "unsual statements" before trying to open the Alaskan Airlines emergecy exit door, according to passengers says FBI spokeswoman, Beth Anne Steele.

Herrera is 23-years-old and was listed at 220 pounds on his in-flight booking information, which obviously didn't make the Alaskan Airlines flight 132 incident any less terrifying.

One witness to the Alaskan Airlines fright, Henry Pignataro, told KGW-TV that he and another man held Herrera down and flight attendants brought three sets of shoelaces which were used to tie the unruly and mentally disturbed passenger's feet together.

"I put him in a choke hold and brought him down to the ground," said the self-effacing Pignataro.

Pignataro said the guy then sat "surrounded by big guys" until the Alaskan Airlines flight was safely on the ground.

Herrera has been booked at a Portland, Oregon jail for the charge of interfering with a flight crew.
