Our Wednesday mornings have never been better! The morning of Wednesday, January 8, SEVENTEEN made an appearance on Fox 5 NY’s Good Day New York, discussing their tour and rise to fame. The thirteen boys will begin their Ode to You tour with a show at Newark’s Prudential Center this Friday, January 10 – but before that, they’re making stops in New York’s news shows and fans out of hosts Rosanna Scotto and Lori Stokes.
With SEVENTEEN on American soil, LA-native Joshua and NY-born Vernon take the lead in interviews. Joshua deftly fielded a translation of the question, “Who’s the biggest troublemaker?” with all fingers pointed at Mingyu – he shyly and happily accepted the title with a triumphant hand gesture. The ever-familiar “Say the name, SEVENTEEN!” introduction is given a whole new life with its English spin-off: the members proudly declare, “We are SEVENTEEN!” before doing sleek self-introductions. (Dokyeom’s eye-smile, paired with a cheery “I am DK!, is heart-wrenchingly adorable in every language, much to our dismay.)
“We want to relate better to our fans,” says Joshua, when asked about SEVENTEEN’s well-known involvement in the lyrics and production of their own songs. Vernon adds, “All of our songs are dedicated to our fans!” The love that SEVENTEEN has for their fans, their Carats, is abundantly clear in everything that they are.
SEVENTEEN’s Performance Team, comprised of Hoshi, Jun, The8, and DIno, followed up with a performance of “Lilili Yabbay” off of their 2nd album Teen, Age. The track is meaningful to SEVENTEEN’s New York appearance in more ways than one: Teen, Age was released back in 2017, the same year as their last New York show as part of their Diamond Edge World tour. Following the show, SEVENTEEN filmed the choreography for “Lilili Yabbay” in front of Brooklyn’s own Borough Hall, immortalizing their creative mark on the city.
Host Rosanna Scotto closed out SEVENTEEN’s appearance by telling them, “[Good Day New York] is your new home! Whenever you’re here, come back!” And that statement rings true – SEVENTEEN makes homes out of the hearts of their fans, and they’ve definitely made new fans out of their stunning Good Day New York appearance. Quick, play SEVENTEEN’S “Home!”
