Italian Fans Apologize, 'We Are Sorry, Psy!'

After an inexplicable round of boos from some of the crowd in attendance at the 2012-2013 Coppa Italia during Psy's special performance of "Gangnam Style," Italian fans are sending in waves of apologies and encouragements over Psy's way.

Via Twitter, numerous fans in Italy are relaying messages to psy with #PSYNeedsRespect. Introducing himself as an avid K-pop fan, one wrote, "I am completely embarrassed by what some of the Italians did at the final match. I feel really sorry for Psy who had to sing through that." Another offered an apology on behalf of his country tweeting, "I am very regretful of what happened during Psy's performance. I am ashamed to be an Italian today. I support you all the way, Psy." Yet another relayed an encouragement, writing "I am very sorry to Psy for the unfortunate behavior of some of the crowd today. Though a few were indeed rude and hateful toward Psy, there are many more Italians who love and respect Psy."

Italian local news have reported that no specific cause has been discovered for the boos from the crowd. The public, however, has swiftly concluded that it stemmed from racism-inspired contempt and hate toward Asians.

Despite the boos and fireworks that went on during his performance of "Gangnam Style," Psy managed to complete the song without trouble and cap off the performance by saying, "Italy, I love you" in Italian.
