Zach Galifianakis, Beard To Goatee: The Transformation Continues After Abandoning Alcohol [VIDEO]

"Hangover"-famed Zach Galifianakis abandoned his trademark beard before the Paris premiere of "Hangover Part III" Monday evening, debuting a goatee as the successful film franchise draws to a close.

"I'm not sad," said the 43-year-old comedian to US Magazine.

"I'm really excited about being able to celebrate this with the fans across the country."

According to Zap2it, the makeover happened quickly following the sequel's U.K. premiere, and unlike his previous hair-related transformations, happened quietly off-camera.

Some have taken this as a gesture towards the actor stepping away from his character in the trilogy, reported Daily News.

"In the first two [films], all Alan did was interject some jokes," said the Funny or Die frequenter.

"And it's satisfying to explore the 'whys' of Alan. And we sort of leave it open-ended at the end, but it looks like Alan is on the right path, at least a bit."

The right path may be what Galifianakis is looking for as well, as he pledged sobriety during an interview with Conan O'Brien earlier in the month.

"[I was] getting into too much trouble with the drinking," said star of the "Between Two Ferns" comedy skits.

"This guy in a Jaguar cut me off when I was crossing Ludlow Street...and I hit the car as hard as I can with my hand. Tap on my shoulder about twenty seconds later, and I turn around and it's two 6-foot-6 guys...and they both, at the same time, spit in my face."

During the interview, Galifianakis is noticeably thinner, and it seems his transformation away from "Hangover"-esque situations could have prompted the beard abandonment.

"I don't know if you've ever been spit in the face non-sexually, but all I remember is being so stunned," he said to Conan jokingly.
