The World's Second Oldest Man Dies; Still Five Older Women Alive In United States Alone [Video]

The world's second-oldest man dies and many in is home country of Barbados mourn.

James Sisnett died on Thursday last week reports CNN, and at 113 years old, born in the last year of last century, he was the oldest man alive in the Western Hemisphere, but far from the oldest "person."

At least, he was before he passed on Thursday last week.

Because women live longer than men, Sisnett was not the second oldest "person" alive, just the second oldest man alive.

There are actually five confirmed women older than Sisnett living in the United States alone according to GRG.org.

Grg.org verifies the ages of those who have passed into triple-digits, or centenarians. They also verify and record those people over 110 years old, or "supercentenarians."

Right now, the oldest confirmed person alive is Jiroemon Kimura from Japan. Kimura turned 116 in April, which is bizarre considering he's a man, but there are no known women that are older, though there are a lot more who are supercentenarians.

Mr. Kimura, who was a postman, is the last living person alive born in the 19th century after Sisnett's passing.

Sisnett was given the moniker "Grandad" on his home island of Barbados, which he never left.

When Sisnett turned 100, they gave him the keys to the capital of Bridgetown as a way of honoring one of Barbados' most popular figures.

He was born on February 22, 1900 and after a career as a blacksmith, retired in 1970.

All told, Sisnett lived for 113 years and 90 days, or 41,363 days, which includes 28 extra days for all those leap years he lived through.

Sisnett also died peacefully in his sleep content with all he had seen change around him in that span.

The oldest recorded human being in the history of our planet was a woman, though: Jeanne Louise Calment of France. She lived to be 122 years 164 days old between February 21, 1875 and August 4, 1997. She died in a nursing home in aries, Southern France.
