Most K-pop fans value the lives and careers of their idols but some people just creep and violate their privacy; they even attack them aggressively! Keep reading to know about the terrifying incidents involving K-pop stalker fans!
The K-pop industry prefers to advertise their stars as acquaintances of their supporters, or even their romantic partner. Everything seems to be achieved through a considerable degree of interaction between idols and their fans which creates the impression of "accessibility" of idols.
Constant social media announcements, reality shows, live cast, fan signs, hi-touch activities, and so on are clearly intended to create the impression that celebrities have a personal connection with their followers. Several idols would go as far as claiming they don't want or need girlfriends because they're girlfriends with their supporters.
This smart marketing tactic gives the audience a powerful emotional bond to their idols that inspires them to invest in albums, products and many more. Although this activity has financial gain, it may also have played an essential role in cultivating a bothersome kind of fan classified as the sasaeng fan.
Most K-pop fans think there is a difference between dream and reality and value the private life of their idols, but there are several sasaeng fans who stalk and disturb the lives and careers of idols obsessively. It can be stated that their urge to become even better connected to them may have ignited their idea of intimacy with their idols.
Below is the list of the scariest stalker fan incidents that happened in the history of K-pop!
BTS AIRPORT MOBBING
It's not extremely rare to see supporters at the airport waiting for famous band BTS. Sadly, cases of mobbing are unusual too!
Although some fans do not engage in the mobbing and seek to avoid the more aggressive fans, there are still a large number of supporters who would catch them and run behind them, making it impossible for them to move and resulting Jimin to tumble over at one occasion. One person was recorded attempting to run straight at V at the airport before being held by a security officer.
GIRLS GENERATION's TAEYEON's ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING
During SNSD's performance of Run Devil Run at the Angel Price Music Festival, a man entered from backstage and pulled Taeyeon off-stage. Thankfully, Staff and security arrested the guy.
Taeyeon rushed to the stage to keep presenting given the traumatic occurrence, and netizens applauded her for her professionalism.
EXO ALMOST GETTING KIDNAPPED
Once, Sasaeng fans rented a car that looked almost identical to the EXO car and placed it where they'd typically be. The members were just about to board the vehicle but their boss, luckily, realized something was wrong and decided to stop them.
JACKSON's VEHICLE ACCIDENT
JYP Entertainment announced in 2016 that GOT7's Jackson was involved in a car crash while en route to China's airport.
They also said that the incident was mostly attributable with fans following him in cars that prompted the violent situation.
2PM MEMBER TAECYEON'S BLOODY LETTER
The notorious case witnessed Taecyeon of 2 PM receive a gruesome note from a fan that is written in blood. She decided to write: "Taecyeon, you can't afford to live without me." The fan later said she used her menstrual blood to write the message.
Entertainment firms appear hesitant to crack down on disruptive fans, despite several of these events arising. Idols also prefer not to pursue complaints against sasaeng fans themselves, and some have even continued to address them as supporters instead of stalkers.
Thankfully, there are previous instances where the idol's agency is taking measures against intrusive fans including when JYP Entertainment revealed earlier this year that they would file criminal charges against TWICE's Nayeon stalker.
