In his legal dispute against Cube Entertainment, Lai Kuanlin has announced that he has lodged an appeal to the court's decision to reject his request to end his contract with the firm.
In July 2019, Lai Kuanlin lodged a motion for the termination of his contract with the agency, stating to his legal advisers that the decision had been made because Cube Entertainment had taken actions that breached their agreement, which include selling his management rights to a third party, contributing to Lai Kuanlin losing trust in the company.
Cube Entertainment decided to respond that they had continued to act with Lai Kuanlin's approval, which spurred a second response from his lawyers to counter their assertions.
In November, the former Wanna One member's appeal to terminate the exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment was rejected by the Seoul Central District Court.
Lai Kuanlin posted a quote from his lawyers Shanghai TianSun Law Firm on his Weibo account on May 19, and said, "Thank you for your faith and moral support in these tough moments, and I will carry on working hard."
His legal team stated, "The choice to reject the proposal of our client to withdraw its exclusive partnership agreement with its Korean company is presently under appeal court proceedings."
They proceeded to say, "Our client would like to convey his gratitude to Cube Entertainment for their stage opportunities. Since we have attempted to find a pleasant, good conscience settlement, the conflict between the two sides has persisted and has seriously affected our client."
Their statement concluded, "Lai Kuanlin will continue focusing its operations in China and then be returning in the upcoming with even good opportunities."
Cube Entertainment has sent news media outlets a clarification regarding an announcement by Lai Kuanlin about their court dispute.
A representative from Cube informed Newsen on the evening of May 20, "On May 19, the Seoul High Court agreed to reject the appeal proceedings over the demand by our agency artist Lai Kuanlin to terminate his exclusive contract with our firm."
They added, "Our company respects the jury's ruling, and through discussions with him, we fully intend to fix this in amicable terms."
On November 21, Cube Entertainment released the corresponding announcement:
"Hello, This is Cube Entertainment.
The Central District Court of Seoul, on this day, has made the decision to deny the request made by our company artist Lai Kuanlin to withdraw his exclusive contract with the agency, which was requested in July.
Our company welcomes the jury's ruling, and we immediately notify you once again that there really is no reason why Cube and Lai Kuanlin should terminate their exclusive contract.
As per the judge's order, we would then retain our exclusive contract connection with Lai Kuanlin, and we will make an acceptable settlement through conversations with him.
Cube Entertainment will continue supporting all of our artists and trainees so that they can demonstrate their maximum potential and do our utmost to comply with the contractual agreements and protect trust.
We sincerely apologize for triggering concern to fans about this issue. During this time, you're worried, and we're going to continue making a good appearance. Thank you."
