BTS has recently voiced their participation in the anti-racism and anti-violence movement that has been spreading in the United States of America.
BTS said on its official Twitter account on the 4th, "We oppose racism. We are against violence. I, you, we all have the right to be respected. We'll be together." They once again said they support the anti-racism and anti-violence movement by attacking "BlackLivesMatter" as a hashtag.
This came to light after the controversial death of a black American, George Floyd in Minneapolis while under the custody of arrest with the local cops. It sparked massive protests among many States in the US to voice-out their sentiments about racial criticism.
In addition, BTS will donate money to organizations related to racial discrimination.
The kpop boy group's agency, Big Hit Entertainment said on the same day that it is difficult to reveal the specific donation group and the amount. However, the said agency mentioned, "We have finished discussions with the Ministry of Finance and the remittance process is currently underway."
Pop stars such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Beyonce also posted on their social media accounts to express their solidarity with the black community and opposition to racial discrimination while paying tribute to George Floyd. Some singers participated in the demonstration directly. It has been the news for days and people are hugely urging everyone to support their plea.
Major music labels, including Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Records, called Friday "Blackout Tuesday" and suspended their business for a day. Such act gathers tremendous support and appreciation among the netizens globally.
BTS has always expressed its opposition to social discrimination both on and off the stage. They have been subject to such for the many times. It was recalled that several times, BTS have succumbed to discrimination that even came from fellow artists. Most recently, a female Hollywood starlet gave negative judgment against them.
RM, BTS's leader gave a speech at the UN General Assembly in 2018 to "love yourself and speak out," and launched a "LOVE MYSELF" campaign to help the younger generation improve or sustain a great self-esteem and eradicate discrimination and violence.
Considering that they have huge fandom around the world, especially their strong influence on SNS, BTS' anti-racism statement is expected to have a huge impact. One example is when Suga delivered 100 million won to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association in February, fans around the world donated a series of refunds following the cancellation of BTS' concert in Seoul, raising hundreds of millions of won to the organization.
