Neil Patrick Harris’ Emmys Are Back on Track; The ‘Quintessential’ Host Returns

Neil Patrick Harris’ Emmy could see the former “Doogie Howser” become the prescription to Awards Nights ills. CBS announced that Neil Patrick Harris will host the upcoming 65th Primetime Emmy Awards one night before the finale of his show “How I Met Your Mother.” The Emmy hosting duties should give the sit-com a bump in ratings.

It was largely speculated that Neil Patrick Harris would be the host of the CBS broadcast of the Emmys on Sept. 22. Next Sunday, Harris will be emceeing the 67th Tony Awards for the network. Harris hosted the Emmys in 2009, the last time they were broadcast on CBS.

Neil Patrick Harris said, “I couldn’t be more honored and excited to be hosting this year’s Emmy Awards. And what perfect timing – I’ll just do the exact same script I’m about to use for the Tonys. ‘And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to Breaking Bad!’ See, told you it works.”

Nina Tassler of CBS Entertainment raved, “Neil is the quintessential host – engaging, entertaining and a true showman – with a passion for celebrating the medium we all love.”

Television Academy chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum gushed, “Four years ago, Neil was an amazing Emmy host and we are excited to have him back. Neil is an extremely gifted and inventive performer, and we look forward to seeing what he has in store this year.”

Ken Ehrlich, who will be the executive producer of the television awards show, said “Neil is one of the most versatile artists currently working in television. It’s going to be great fun to utilize his acting, hosting, musical and producing talents on the Emmys. We’ve had the pleasure of working together on other award shows in the past, and to have him bring all of that versatility to this year’s Emmy telecast again is very exciting for all of us working on the production.”

Harris won two Emmys for his Tony Award hosting duties in 2009 and 2011.
