George Michael 'Continues To Rest And Recuperate' And 'Is Well' After Car Accident

According to E! Online, 49-year-old singer George Michael has been discharged from the hospital after his car accident on May 16.

A statement posted on George Michael's website, www.georgemichael.com, confirms that "He is well and thanks everyone for all the message of support."

The statement also adds that the former Wham! frontman "continues to rest and recuperate."

Reuters reports that George Michael was being treated for head injuries and was "under observation" until today.

George Michael was a passenger in a Range Rover driving down the M1 highway just outside of London. During rush hour, he was involved in a traffic accident and the singer fell out of the car.

Last week, his rep told Reuters that he was fine and only suffered "superficial cuts and bruises." The rep said he had stayed in the hospital since May 16 so that the bumps and cuts on his head could be observed as a precaution.

Just last year, George Michael had to cancel a tour in Australia due to "major anxiety" caused by severe pneumonia, which he had been suffering from since 2011 in Vienna. He was put in intensive care for a month.

Michael has sold an estimated 100 million records over his career.
