On July 21, EXO's Chanyeol delighted fans and viewers with his appearance on MBC FM4U's "Good Morning FM Jang Sung Kyu" to promote EXO-SC's (Sehun & Chanyeol) latest album, "1 Billion Views." He also talked about his career as a singer under the duo and his personal life.
However, as the conversation progressed, fans were shocked when Chanyeol made a revelation of a bullying experience he had in the past.
In the broadcast, Chanyeol said, "I am now 185 centimeters tall, and I was small when I was young."
He continued, "When I was in middle school, I was so short that I had to take the lead in school." It sounded like a surprise to the hosts and viewers as he was literally one of the tallest idols today.
"So my mother forced me to eat breakfast and jumped rope a lot. Then, I suddenly grew up when I was in the third grade of middle school," he explained.
He added why he was being teased when he was younger, and it is something that one would never imagine. Chanyeol confessed, "I was bullied a lot because I was small resembling a "dwarf" when I was young. So it became a habit to fold the wings." He explained that the song, "Fly Away," is about self-esteem. It shares a message that says, "You can spread your wings now."
When host Jang Sung Kyu asked him to say a word to his friends who bullied the EXO member at the time, he said, "I hope you're doing well." His answer created an air of no remorse as there is no reason for him to dwell on such events in the past as he is more than blessed by the kind of life that he is living right now.
"Fly Away" is a track from EXO-SC's first full-length album "1 Billion Views," released on July 13. In addition to this, Gaeko of Dynamic Duo is featured in this track.
With the desire to make more than 1 billion views, and as soon as the album was released, EXO's amazing duo proved their global popularity by topping various charts in their homeland and internationally.
Sehun and Chanyeol said they had been saddened that they could not meet their fans due to the prolonged pandemic, but the online concert was meaningful because it soothed their feelings a little bit. They are also slated to perform at the virtual 26th Dream Concert CONNECT:D, which will run on July 25 and 26. They also unveiled a special TikTok challenge for their title track, "1 Billion Views."
